JOHN STUMPF, ELMHURST, IL BARBARA MCDERMAND STUMPF, ELMHURST, IL JOHN I was born in St. Louis as my parents' families and relatives lived there for many years. Soon my parents moved to Beardstown in west central Illinois. Dad was an accountant for Schultz Baujan Mills. Besides duck hunting, fishing, and farming the town's main claim to fame is the "Beardstown Ladies" investment club. Graduated with a Philosophy degree from Illinois College, a B. D. from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, a Ph. D. in Psychology from the U. of Utah, and interned at the Salt Lake City VAH. Upon graduation we moved to Bethesda where I worked as Research Director for the VA Psychiatric Evaluation Project (PEP). I took IBM classes to learn Fortran and machine language so as to build statistical programs for the IBM 7094 at the National Bureau of Standards. PEP did quality evaluation of VA hospitals to determine which ones were better at helping schizophrenic patients remain out of hospitals. After several years we moved to Elmhurst, IL where I joined the Psychology Service at Hines VAH. The majority of my time was in the Mental Hygiene Clinic and I liked working with combat veterans, especially Death March survivors, POWs, Korean vets and some Nam vets. Hobbies include fishing, traveling, golfing, visiting family and messing with the computer. Past member of the American Psychology Association and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Member of the Methodist Church and the Masons. BARBARA I was born in Montana and lived on a wheat ranch east of Brady until I was six. Then I went to Great Falls to live with my grandmother and attend school. My folks sold the ranch and moved to Great Falls when I was eight. After graduation from Great Falls High School in '52 I went to Northwestern U. where I met John. We married in '54 and moved to Salt Lake City upon my graduation from NU. I taught school for two years and then retired to raise our youngest child. Our moved to Elmhurst allowed me to stay home until our youngest of four children was in school. Then I became an elementary vocal music teacher for 10 years. In a complete career change I became a Certified Financial Planner and broker. This lasted for 10 years until I retired to enjoy the family, learn to play golf (John's idea), and travel with him. We visited my family in Montana and our son and his family who lived in Texas. Now all the children and their families live in Illinois.
